Marco Zanini Biography
The Italian designer Marco Zanini was born inird 1954 in Trento (Trent) in 1954. He took his university degree in architecture in Florence in 1978. While still a student, Marco Zanini spent some time in the US, where he worked as a designer for the Argonaut Company in Los Angeles and freelanced as a designer in San Francisco. In 1975 Marco Zanini met Ettore Sottsass and worked in his practice from 1978. In 1981 Marco Zanini, along with Ettore Sottsass, Barbara Radice, Michele De Lucchi, Aldo Cibic, and Matteo Thun, was a founding member of Memphis. Marco Zanini showed work at all Memphis exhibitions. For Memphis, Marco Zanini designed numerous colorful objects of handblown glass; even before his Memphis period, Marco Zanini designed the "Cassiopea" vase in 1980. In 1982 Marco Zanini designed the "Alpha Centauri" vase. Marco Zanini's ceramic objects are just as playful as anything he designed in glass. In 1983 Marco Zanini designed the "Colorado", "Sepik", and "Mississippi" teapots, which were made for Memphis by Ceramiche Flavia. In 1981 Marco Zanini designed the "Dublin" sofa and, in 1983, "Union", a shelving system for books. Marco Zanini worked for the Sottsass & Associati practice for a long time. Moreover, Marco Zanini has taught at numerous institutes and universities worldwide.
