Biography
The artist group WIR was set up in Munich in 1959 by Heino Naujoks (*1937), Helmut Rieger (*1931) and Florian Köhler (*1935). The sculptor Hans Matthäus Bachmayer (*1940) and Reinhold Heller (*1933) joined the group in 1961. The rediscovery of the baroque-style pictorial space in connection with rudiments of American abstract expressionism of painters such as Polloks or Koonings was given great emphasis by the group. Intensive cooperation of the group SPUR led to the association of WIR and SPUR to a group called "Geflecht".
