Erste Ausgabe der ersten 60 Bände und der Registerband (für die Bände 1-53) von Samuel Curtis. In diesem Umfang und dieser Vollständigkeit seltenes in sich geschlossenes Teilstück der bekannten botanischen Reihe, deren Herausgabe vom 18. bis ins 20. Jahrhundert reicht. "It is, indeed, the oldest current scientific periodical of its kind with colored illustrations in the world, and in the beauty of production and high standard of its contributions it can claim a unique place." EINBAND: Restaurierte Kalblederbände der Zeit mit Rückenschild und Rückenvergoldung. 24 : 14,5 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit 1 gestochenem und 1 lithographiertem Porträt und 3292 (3288 koloriert) Kupfertafeln (235 gefaltet). - ZUSTAND: Stellenw. schwach gebräunt oder gering stockfleckig, 1 Tafel nebst Textbl. mit leichten Klebspuren, Schnitt vereinz. etw. fleckig, Vorsätze meist leimschattig. Gelenke und Rücken brüchig (teils restauriert). - PROVENIENZ: Besitzvermerk und Eignerschild "Rev. J. Armetriding" (19. Jh.).

Complete copy with 1 engr. and 1 lithogr. portrait and 3292 (3288 colored) copperplates (235 folding). Contemp. calf with label and gilt spine, index in half calf with renewed spine. - Partly minor browning, 1 plate & text leaf with some traces of glueing together, edges here and there somewhat stained, endpapers mostly glue-stained, joints and spines brittle (partly restored).
