To the jurist Johann Friedrich von Koppenfels (1737-1811), Chancellor in Weimar, whom Goethe had asked for passes for himself and his "small family" in order to go on his third journey to Switzerland.

"Ew.

Goethe's third and last journey to Switzerland (30 July till 20 November 1797) led him to Frankfurt at first, from where he picked up Christiane and his son August. It was the first encounter of his mother and his then not yet legitimate family. - Koppenfel's daughter Amalie Caroline became the wife of the painter Johann Heinrich Meyer, Goethe's "Kunscht-Meyer", in 1803. - Printed in the Sophien edition, vol. XII, p. 208.
