The plate painted by Marc Chagall comes from the collection of Peter A. Ade (1913-2005), first director of the Kunsthalle of the Hypo-Kulturstiftung (1985-1999) and former director of Haus der Kunst in Munich (1950-1982). In his role, Ade maintained close contact with numerous artists throughout his life, including Marc Chagall, Hans Purrmann, Oskar Kokoschka and Giacomo Manzù. [CH].
• Part of the Peter A. Ade Collection (1913-2005, former director Haus der Kunst, Kunsthalle Hypo-Kulturstiftung) for almost 50 years.
• Ceramics or painted porcelain designed by Marc Chagall are rarely found on the international auction market.
• In charming, small sketches, Chagall shows some characteristic figurative elements of his painting: the rooster, the goat, an elongated figure with flowing forms, a blooming tree and a small row of houses (cf. "I and the Village" 1911, museum of Modern Art).
