This work is a great example of Marini's fascination for Etruscan art. The Tuscan pride is closely linked with their cultural history. Marini's fascination for the horse as one of the most noble and most useful animals that man can possibly have peaks in an adoration of its beauty and nobleness. Marini's horses are rendered as simple creatures in a noble posture that slightly emanates human dignity. The work is Marini's significant contribution to Italian modernist painting. For its aesthetic effect, formal unity and striking authenticity it is equatable to Marini's great creations.
