Late work with fresh color values and in a strong duct.

It was not before after the end of World War II that Karl Schmidt-Rottluff began to employ color chalks as means of artistic creation. Alongside watercolors as a compositional element, color chalks became an important means as of the 1950s. From that point onward mixed media were a common technique in Karl Schmidt-Rottluff's works. It shows, just as it is the case with this work, the artist's versatility. All the works that originate from this late period are characterized by an artistic power that is even more impressive as it documents his incessant artistic powers.
