Later he devoted himself to animal painting in Heinrich von Zügel’s master class. In 1913 Ludwig bock went to Paris for study purposes. Falling under the sway of the modern approach to colour practised by the French school, he abandoned the Zügel style. Bock’s early work is distinguished by a lightness schooled on the plein air painting of the French Impressionists. His nude studies especially were very important. Bock achieved volatile, vibrant colourist effects, which ensured him uncontested status in the Munich art scene of his day. [HL]
