Bernard Schultze
1915 - 2005
Mond-Verlangen nach der Erde. 1983.
Mixed media on canvas.
Signed and dated lower right. Signed, dated, and titled again on the reverse of the canvas. 200 x 135 cm (78.7 x 53.1 in).
The work is listed in the artist's handwritten catalog of works. [MH].

Bernard Schultze is one of the most important protagonists of gestural abstract art in Germany.
• The protruding, relief-like material from the surface visualizes the tension between the moon and the earth—a formal counterpart to the movement of approach and attraction implied in the title.
• “Mond-Verlangen nach der Erde” (Moon Longing for the Earth) allows material and space to merge into a cohesive unity of content
.
