• From the best creative period of the important expressionist and "Brücke" artist.
• Rare intimate depiction of the humble domestic circumstances of the artist and his friend Sidi Riha in their Berlin attic apartment.
• In those days Sidi was often depicted as weak and ill in a reclined position, just as it is the case in the famous triptych "Genesende" at the Harvard Art Museum / Busch-Reisinger-Museum, Cambridge.
The work is registered in the archive of the Erich Heckel Estate, Hemmenhofen on Lake Constance.

"Yesterday we visited Heckel and his friend, the dancer Sidi Riha, when we left we had a feeling as if we had just spent time with two children. Wearing a light blue velvet dress, the small dancer sat in the humble attic chamber, wearing lovely silver braces Heckel had made for her. Maria crashed on a makeshift chair; overall, we both felt like clumsy bears up there."
