• James Brown combines archaic symbols with abstract, geometric forms in bright blue.
• As early as the 1970s, he studied in Paris and gained new influences from Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso and Jean Dubuffet.
• The use of unusual materials and their combination with traditional techniques are characteristic of his work.
• In the 1980s, he exhibited alongside artists such as Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring in the major New York galleries Leo Castelli and Shafrazi Art Gallery

In good condition. The folding part of the work's nature. Brownish canvas with various types of stains, presumably largely from the making. With a single loose thread in upper left.
