Mixed media. Broken violin with bow in polyester and plexiglass.
Unique object. 25 x 25 x 25 cm (9.8 x 9.8 x 9.8 in).
On black metal base (overall height 75.5 cm).
• Arman destroys, reproduces or dismembers everyday objects, industrially manufactured objects and garbage, but also musical instruments such as violins and saxophones, thereby creating new assemblages, accumulations and collages with which he criticizes consumer society and the commercialization of the art world.
• Together with Daniel Spoerri, Yves Klein, Jean Tinguely, François Dufrêne, Raymond Hains, Martin Raysse and Jacques Villeglé, he was one of the founding members of Nouveau Realisme.
• In 1964, 1968 and 1977 the artist participated in the documenta in Kassel.
• Works from the 1970s are at, among others, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the Center Pompidou, Paris
.
