• Effectively staged: The blue African stool in this drawing stands for the fascination the "Brücke“ artist had for non-European art and cultures.
• Kirchner treats the entwined figures and the exposed stool equally in this composition.
PROVENANCE: Hermann Gerlinger Collection, Würzburg (with the collector's stamp, Lugt 6032).
