Our sheet used to be in the possession of the art historian Alois Jakob Schardt (1889-1955), director of the Städtisches Museums Moritzburg in Halle/Saale as of 1926. He expanded the collection of modern art and taught at the Halle Unversity. In 1929 Schardt commissioned Lyonel Feininger with the series of the "Halle-Bilder", of which three paintings are shown at the Lyonel-Feininger-Galerie in Quedlinburg.
Achim Moeller, director of the Lyonel Feininger Project LLC, New York/Berlin,confirmed this work's authenticity. It is registered at the archive of the Lyonel Feininger Project with the number 130-07-29-05.
PROVENANCE: Alois Jakob Schardt, Halle, Berlin and Los Angeles (until 1955).
