Signed and inscribed "XL.F." in lower right, dated in lower right as well as as titled at bottom center. Verso with the stamp "Feininger Estate" and the hand-written number "F 47 (?)". On creme Arches laid paper (with watermark "Ingres d’Arches"). 31 x 48 cm (12.2 x 18.8 in), size of sheet. [JS].
• Airy and light watercolor with a striking color acentuation.
• The subtle line structure in ink is a masterly document of Feininger's characteristic architecturak-prismatic imagery.
• Feininger's crystalline seascapes are particularly sought-after on the international auction market.
• Lyonel Feininger's works are in many important international collections, among them the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Centre Pompidou, Paris, the Städel Museum, Frankfurt a. M., and the Sprengel Museum, Hanover.
