Erste Ausgabe. - Umfassende Abbildung des portugiesischen Klosters von Batalha, das der irische Architekt James Cavanah Murphy (1760-1814) auf seine Reisen nach Portugal 1788-89 ausführlich studiert hatte. Mit dem Discours bildete es ein wichtiges Werk aus der Anfangszeit der Neogotik in der europäischen Architektur, und fand große Verbreitung (mit einer Neuauflage 1836 und einer deutschen Übersetzung des Discours 1828).
