Eines der Hauptwerke des britischen Insektenforschers, Miniaturmalers und Kupferstechers Moses Harris. Mit schönen Tafeln mit Schmetterlingen, Fliegen, Bienen, Hummeln, Wanzen und Libellen.
Erster Druck der zweiten Ausgabe des berühmten entomologischen Werkes. Harris (1730- ca. 1788) zeichnete, stach und kolorierte die exzellenten und ungewöhnlich genauen Illustrationen seiner Werke selbst (vgl. DNB IX, 20f.). - Englisch-französische Parallelausgabe mit der gestochenen Detailtafel, jedoch ohne das meist fehlende Farbschema.
EINBAND: Späterer Halbmaroquinband mit Rückenvergoldung. 31 : 25,5 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit koloriertem gestochenen Frontispiz, gestochenem Titel und 51 Kupfertafeln (50 koloriert). - KOLLATION: VIII S., S. (9-)166, 2 Bll. (Index). - ZUSTAND: Stockfleckig, 1 Textbl. im Rand eingerissen. Rücken verfärbt. - PROVENIENZ: Aus der Bibliothek des Entomologen Eric Gowing-Scopes (1913-2007).

Later half morocco. - Lacking as often the plate with the scheme of colors. Foxed, 1 text leaf with tear to margin. Spine discolored. - From the library of British entomologist Eric Gowing-Scopes (1913-2007) with his bookplate.(R)
