Erste Ausgabe. - 1825 wurden von der britischen Admiralität insgesamt vier Arktisexpeditionen ausgesandt (jeweils unter der Leitung von Parry, Lyon, Beechey und Franklin). Franklin kartierte auf seiner Überlandexpedition entlang des Mackenzie Rivers und durch das Gebiet bis zum Coppermine River mehr als 1000 Meilen neuer Küste. "The success of the expedition was heightened by the return of Beechey's expedition, which had navigated from the Bering Strait to within 256 kilometres of Franklin's furthest west. For the first time, almost the entire northern coast of America, at least as far as the Kent Peninsula, could be shown on the maps." (Howgego)
