"Guidobaldo's first work, the Liber mechanicorum, was regarded by contemporaries as the greatest work on statistics since the Greeks ... Guidobaldo was Galileo's patron and friend for twenty years and was possible the greatest single influence on the mechanics of Galileo" (DSB IX, 487). - Waterstained and slightly foxed in places, stamped on verso of title and on 1 l. and with entries by an old hand.
