First edition of this important work by the Italian naturalist and poet Francesco Redi, adressed to Athanasius Kircher. Redi discussed certain curious botanical and zoological specimens from the West and East West Indies, among them pepper, vanilla, star-anise and chinchona. With engr. title and 6 copperplates. Contemp. flex. vellum. - Partly slight foxing, 2 plates with backed tear, small wormtrace on 2 plates.
