At the same period he also visited the islands of the coast of Thrace, vz. Thasos, Samothrace, Lemnos, and Imbros; the account he produced of those islands was published in 1860 as Reise auf den Inseln des Thrakischen Meeres. He later carried out archaeological excavations in Samothrace. In 1860 Conze travelled in Greece with the great art historian and archaeologist Adolf Michaelis to whom he has dedicated his work on Lesbos."
