Ausgabe). - Erste Ausgabe der bedeutenden Reisebeschreibung, die Wheeler zusammen mit Jakob Spon in den Jahren 1675-76 unternommen hat. "Wheler was especially interested in botany and topography ... Wheeler's work remained the standard English book on Greece for many years, though curiously enough it has never been reprinted. It represents, together with Spon's book in French, the first attempt at a systematic topographical description based upon explorations" (Blackmer Coll.). - Etw. gebräunt und fleckig, Titelbl. mit Randläsuren, bei 1 Bl. ob. Eckabriß ergänzt, letztes Blatt mit restaur. Einriß. Karte beschnitten und aufgezogen sowie mit ausgebesserter Fehlstelle. Einband beschädigt.

I. First edition. With 1 folding engraved map, 7 (4 fullpage) copperplates and 88 engraved illustrations. - Contemporary calf (damaged). - Somewhat browned and foxed, title with marginal fraying, 1 corner mended, 2 leaves with restored tears. Map trimmed and backed also with restored defective spot.
II. First edition. With engraved frontispiece, 3 (2 folding) copperplates and woodcut-plate. - Somewhat spotted, 1 leave with mended tear.
