Signed and dated lower left. 47,8 : 66 cm (18,8 : 25,9 in). The Berlin painter Franz Martin Lünstroth was a pupil of Josef Scheurenberg’s at the Berlin Art Academy. In 1910 Lünstroth joined the Willingshausen artists’ colony in the Schwalm region of Hesse, where he produced a large body of genre paintings and landscapes. After the first world war, Lünstroth lived for quite some time in Italy. His works are distinguished by precise observation and the portrayal of both people and landscapes from unusual angles. [NB]
