Bedeutende Reisebeschreibung des über 26 Jahre durch Europa, Asien und Nordafrika reisenden Hugenotten La Mottraye, u. a. angereichert mit einigen frühen Werken von William Hogarth.
Erste französische Ausgabe, die engl. Orig.-Ausgabe erschien 1723. - "This important work describes La Mottraye's travels over a 26-year period which took him through Northern Europe to Tartary and the Levant. The plates are of particular interest and include many signed by Hogarth which form part of his early work. They illustrate antiquties, objets d'art, and scenes of the eastern life. Especially interesting is a plate showing a dance at a Greek wedding, with each member of the party dressed in a different costume" (Blackmer). - Der zweite Teil enthält eine eingehende Darstellung des Nordischen Krieges sowie eine Beschreibung Südrußlands und des Kaukasus. Mit einer umfangreichen Subskriptionsliste, darunter Isaak Newton, Thomas Brereton, Hans Sloane und Richard Steele.
EINBAND: Pergamentband der Zeit mit Rückentitel und schwarzgeprägtem kl. Wappensupralibros. 31,5 : 21,5 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit 1 gestochenen Titel (st. 2), 2 gestochenen Titelvignetten (wdh.), 47 (28 gefalteten) Kupfertafeln und 4 gefalteten Kupferkarten nach Picard, Hogarth u. a. - KOLLATION: 6 Bll., 472, 23 S.; 3 Bll., 496, 39 S. - ZUSTAND: Vereinz. schwach stockfl. und gebräunt (3 Bll. stärker), 1 Taf. mit Randabriß, 2 Taf. mit kl.
