Phillips/L. 4004 and Tooley, Mapmakers I, 176. - Collection of county maps from the large English atlas, here as "pocket maps": the folding maps have been seperated into small segments and laid on canvas (format ca. 70 : 54 cm). - Contains maps no. 4-8, 10-14, 16-28- 30-37, 39, 42-46, Among them the counties Kent, Essex, Middlesex, Devonshire, Dorset, Somerset, Norfolk, Durham, Yorkshire, Cumberland, Nottinghamshire and others. Each map with a large title cartouche with rich figurative decoration and some with small extra maps. - Slightly foxed and browned, a little stronger in the folding, 1 map stained with spores. Slipcase rubbed. All in all well-preserved. - Attached: 3 further pocket maps (among them Post Roads through England and Wales by T. Jefferys, London around 1760, 57,5 : 48 cm, and England and Wales by J. Rocque, London 1761, ca. 116 : 99 cm). Each laid on canvas, folded and in boards slipcase.
Collection of loose maps from Bowen's Large English Atlas, changed to pocket maps. 37 engr. maps with outline colour (of 47). Mounted on single sheets of linen, folded. In contemp. cardboard slipcases. - Slightly foxing and browning, partly stronger in the folds, 1 map partly mouldy. Slipcases rubbed.
