Comprehensive and interesting private collection of photographs of a Germany by a German merchant through island world of the South Chinese Sea and the Pacific Ocean. The journey, made by both car and ship, led through Malaysia and Indonesia to the Micronesian and Polynesian Islands of the former German colonies (Caroline Islands, Palau, Mariana Islands, Marshall Islands, New Guinea, Bismarck Archipelago, Fiji, Samoa etc.) as well as Australia and New Zealand and finally Ceylon and South India. Photographs (most in size of 9 : 13 cm) reflect the traveller's fascination of the exotic world. Numerous photos show various natives in their surrounding and social position (young men and women, families, chiefs, widows, warrior, members of the European colonial powers etc. Many in traditional clothing etc. and performing typical activities. Also with photos of flora and fauna, coconut palmtrees, turtles etc. With views of volcanoes, caves, temples, cities such as Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Sydney, Wellington, Lake Rotomahana, Waimangu Valley etc. All in all a very comprehensive photo documentation with interesting insight into a strange culture.
