On this painting Heinrich Windelschmidt depicts the famous bridge "Ponte Vecchio" across the river Arno in Florence. The impressive work is particularly captivating for its lucent colors that the artist applied to the canvas in an almost impressionist manner. Heinrich Windelschmidt, who was particularly renowned for his expressionist church paintings, was appointed knight of the Order of St. Sylvester by Pope John XXIII. [KH].
