Dritte Ausgabe, die erste herausgegeben von Bernard de la Vinheta. - "Lull's most famous work on logics. He here develops a method which, as he believed, would enable one to evidence the essential unity of science, and to attain encyclopedic and certain knowledge from above almost automatically." (Duveen) - Exemplar mit einem nicht foliierten Doppelblatt nach Bl. 4, das die beiden unausgeschnittenen Holzschnitt-Volvellen für die Quarta Figura nebst einer Anweisung für den Buchbinder enthält.
EINBAND: Zeitgenössischer flexibler Pergamentband. 4to. 20 : 14 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit 10 Holzschnitt-Diagrammen im Text (davon 3 ganzseitig) sowie zahlreichen Holzschnitt-Initialen. - KOLLATION: 123 (st. 124) röm. num. Bll. - ZUSTAND: Fehlt der Vorspann (4 Bll.: Titel, Index) und das letzte Bl. 124 (alle durch gute Faksimile ersetzt). - Die Quarta Figura wurde von einem Vorbesitzer mit faksimilierten Volvellen (auf altem Papier) versehen, offensichtlich um das oben genannte Doppelblatt mit den originalen Holzschnitt-Volvellen zu bewahren. - Stellenw. gering fleckig, die ersten 4 Zeilen am Textbeginn von alter Hand durchgestrichen. Sonst guterhaltenes Exemplar.

Third edition of the Ars Magna, the first edited by the Lullist scholar Bernard de Lavinheta (died c. 1530), of the Ars Magna, Lull’s greatest work, now recognised as perhaps a very early contribution to computer science. With 10 diagrams (3 are full-page). In our copy, the bifolio leaf with the two woodcut diagrams for the Quarta Figura - intended to be cut up and used as volvelles - and the instructions to the binder remain original and intact, here bound after fol. IIII (as a previous owner has made the volvelles in early paper and placed them on leaf 4v, evidently so as not to cut the originals). Contemp. flexible vellum. - First 4 leaves (title and index) and the last one with device carefully replaced in good facsimile. - Partly slight staining, first 4 lines of the Prohemium crossed out by old hand. Else well-preserved.(R)
