A deep love of Italy and its culture became manifest in Peiffer Watenphul‘s pictorial world which is full of calmness and Mediterranean composure. The freeze-like accumulation of southern fruits which Peiffer Watenphul arranged here is both an invitation to participate in a life of contemplation. Peiffer Watenphul had never been carried away to depict the south in exuberant colors, as it was the case with many his contemporaries.
