Frühlingssonne über Tautenhain - Zaunbau. 1948.
Oil on wood.
Felixmüller 1146. Signed and dated lower center. With inscription "Frühling in Tautenhain" on verso as well as with artist's stamp. 50 x 76 cm (19,6 x 29,9 in).
PROVENANCE: Private collection Saxony Anhalt (acquired from artist in 1962).
After his Berlin flat had been bombed out in 1944, Conrad Felixmüller and his family found refuge in the town of Tautenhain south of Leipzig. His new home became a new source of inspirations and Felixmüller sought his motifs in the rural surroundings. Just as it is the case with this idyllic painting, which was made between April 21 and 24 in 1948, according to the handwritten catalog raisonné. It shows that Conrad Felixmüller attained a poetic color realism in his later works. This period of artistic creation, which carries features of Impressionism, is in clear contrast with the expressionist forms in his early works. [KP].
