Roethel 79. Monogrammed in printing block in left center. Trial proof in black aside from the edition in colors. On thin glassine (with watermark). 16.3 x 15.5 cm (6.4 x 6.1 in). 21,7 x 18,3 cm (8,5 x 7,2 in).
The woodcut shows the same motif as the painting "Bild mit Bogenschützen" (Museum of Modern Art, New York). The painting is dated 1909, however, it is not possible to identify whether the woodcut offered here was made at an earlier point, which explains why it is mentioned with the date 1908/09 in the catalog raisonné. [CH].

• The motif stands for Kandinsky‘s path to abstraction
• The horseman as herald of Modernism.
