This work was made during Polke's study period at the art academy under Gerhard Hoehme and Karl Otto Götz. Fondness of experimenting and an overwhelming inventive talent are attributes that describe Polke's entire artistic creation. They became already obvious in early works such as this one. Time and again he tried out new techniques and faces the challenge to reinvent painting. It is a time of trial and error that laid the fundament for his later workd.
