Hence he always manages to pro-actively overcome inertia with a minimum of inconvenience when confronted with an empty support (lead, wood or canvas) for paint, to accomplish the amount of work he has set himself in order to make the picture that emerges approximate art as soon as possible, to let it stand in the charged field that is art, while at the same time monitoring the extent to which it can take the heat there.’ (Trans. from the original.
