Originally a member of the Fauves, Maurice de Vlaminck later developed an own style characterized by a renunciation of the wild colors typical of his earlier works. The later landscapes of empty village roads, just as the large number of flower still lifes, have a completely different message. The restrained palette is dominated by earthen tones with colorful accents here and there, a combination that increases the overall mystic atmosphere that Vlaminck attained in this flower still life, making it a calm vanitas.
