Kandinsky's early landscapes are still under a strong influence of Impressionism, its aftereffects lasted into the twentieth century. The verve that characterizes the works by Kandinsky is proof of the artist's intention to spontaneously render what he sees. The atmosphere of this quickly captured landscape benefits from the spatula technique, the cardboard and the releatively small format also suggest a plein-air execution. The pastel colors underline the approach to a landscape fully rendered in the sens of Impressionism. In Kandinsky's oeuvre works from this era are of crucial importance for the artist's development to a representational abstraction.
