Ada and Emil Nolde, 12 years her senior, got married in 1902. Ada Vilstrup, who had pursued an acting career before her marriage, organized her husband's artistic life with full commitment. In the same year that this woodcut was created, the Nolde couple met the collector Gustav Schiefler. He described Ada Nolde as follows: "..she was delicate and fine, charming, natural, with an almost fragile physicality, but there was an uninterrupted silent harmony between them.." (Gerhard Schack (ed.), Gustav Siefler. Meine Graphiksammlung, Hamburg 1974, p. 46). Gustav Schiefler later also compiled the catalogue raisonné of Emil Nolde's prints.

In good condition. Partially slightly creased in the margins. Fine, rich impression.
