Modersohn made this painting from a position above the hamlet Gailenberg with view onto a barn, the houses of Gailenberg and the Hinterstein mountain range in background.

PROVENANCE: Private collection Southern Germany (acquired directly from the artist and the artist's family respectively; since then in possession of the family).
