Renouard I, 62. - Schreiber 83. - Darlow/Moule 6127. - Adams B 1037. - "Estienne's second 8vo edition of the Latin Bible (first in 1534), and one which was felt to challenge conservatism more blatantly than any of his previous editions. Robert here prints the Vulgate in parallel columns with an alternative translation: the Zürich version .. This presentation of an alternative was considered an attack on the authority of the Vulgate .. Both text and notes are printed in Estienne's smallest roman type. This edition is very rare .." (Schreiber). - Kollation: 12 nn., 156, 172, 116, 148 num., 4 nn. Bll., num. Bll. 149-180, 128 num., 40 nn. Bll. - 8 Bll. im letzten Teil (NT) dopp. eingebunden. Stellenw. leicht fleckig und gering wasserrandig, Schnitt gebräunt, Titel mit alten durchgestr. Besitzeinträgen und Randläsuren, letzte Bll. mit leichten Wurmspuren (Buchstabenverlust, 1 Bl. am Rand hinterl.), vereinz. seitl. knapp beschnitten. Einbd. beschabt, RDeckel mit Schnittspuren, Rücken an den Kap. restauriert.
Second octavo edition by Estienne (cf. Schreiber). 5 pts. in 1 vol. With woodcut title-border and woodcut printer's device on title. Somewhat later calf over wooden boards (used). - 8 leaves in the NT bound in twice. Partly slight staining, edges browned, last leaves with slight worming (loss of letters, 1 leaf backed), few leaves cropped close.
