Munich, June 15, 2020 (KK) - "Frau Rosenheim, Königgrätzer Str. 139/134" - that's all what the reverse side of the painting by Karl Hagemeister reveals. However, surely enough to discover a fascinating story leading through the intricate paths of world history to a family not only famous thanks to Thomas Mann's father-in-law: the Pringsheim family.

It's the story of the committed, kind-hearted and progressive Margarethe Rosenheim and the renowned art-minded banker Julius Rosenheim. It's the story of their daughter Katharine, called Käthe, who attended a Scottish college at a time when it was everything but normal for young ladies to benefit from high education and who would later marry in an illustrious family. It is also the story of Fritz Pringsheim, acclaimed law professor and humanist, who was only saved from the atrocities of a concentration camp through the advocacy of a former student with Heinrich Himmler.

It is a story of migration, war and reconstruction, a story of misery, loyalty and integrity - a true story that life told and in which Karl Hagemeister's "Birken im Herbst am Bachlauf" plays a starring role.

For the time being the end of the story is marked by a successful cooperation between owners, heirs and auction house that restores the long lost identity of an artwork and connects the lives of many. This way the unique history remains preserved for future generations while a starting point for new stories was created.
