Berlin, 20 January, 2014 (kk) – The exhibition "Karl Schmidt-Rottluff & the Brücke Artists", on display at Ketterer Kunst in Berlin- Charlottenburg from 17 February to 30 April and for sale on www.ketterer-internet-auctions.com as of 16 April, commemorates two anniversaries at the same time. While the auction house celebrates its sixtieth birthday, the Brücke Museum was founded half a century ago.
50 years ago Karl Schmidt Rottluff laid the foundation for the museum with a donation he made to the Federal State of Berlin. On occasion of this anniversary, five of the artist's original wooden printing blocks have been selected for a unique project. The most appealing and rarest motifs were republished in a limited edition of just 50 copies each on high quality laid paper. All woodcuts carry the artist's monogram "SR" and the copyright stamp of the "Karl und Emy Schmidt-Rottluff-Stiftung" on the rear. Additionally, they are signed and numbered by the printer. A part of the proceeds will go to the benefit of the Brücke Museum.
The five unusual works by Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, among which we also find "Weg mit Bäumen", made in 1911 and offered for the first time in red and blue, are accompanied by works by Erich Heckel, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Emil Nolde and Hermann Max Pechstein from between 1906 and 1913. All in all some 20 original graphic works will be on display.
