Munich, 24 April, 2014, (kk) – It is polarizing, probes beyond limits and has a finger on the pulse of today's world - the talk is about the latest contemporary art. After the great success with an own catalog of "Contemporary Art" in last December's auction, this section is going to make for great enthusiasm again in the Jubilee Auction at Ketterer Kunst on 6/7 June with an unusual range of offerings.
The separate catalog with some 80 works by thrilling contemporary artists is led by Daniel Richter's "Scharnier, von gestern zu morgen". The oil painting from 2005 counts among his sought-after but very rare large-sized works on the auction market. The estimate is at € 80,000-120,000.
Maurizio Cattelan's untitled skeleton-vase from 2000 has been estimated at € 70,000-90,000. The artist's thoughts for this work touch issues of life and death, which he prefers to examine with a black sense of humor that lets one's laughter freeze. The both witty and eloquent memento mori is dedicated to the end of life and is characterized by the contrast between the bones' aesthetics and the floral decoration of the bone man who perks at the observer.
Jonas Burgert definitely is one of the most exciting representatives of contemporary figuration. In his large-sized painting "1 Zyklus Potsdam" the grotesque, surreal and bizarre dominates the scene. Nightmarish figures occupy the image space, dazzling colors wrap-spin the gloomy gray of the night. Despite all its dramatics, the work emanates a certain calmness and seems to tell a complex story, it carries an estimate of € 60,000-80,000.
An untitled work by Steven Parrino has been estimated at € 50,000-70,000. The remarkable work by the key figure of New York pop- and subculture, who passed away far too early, was made in 1990 and is surely going to enthuse not only collectors from the U.S.A.
Carsten Höller's plastic "A-Rad" (estimate: € 45,000-55,000) is surely going to make for tension in the auction room, and especially among European art lovers. Its has a lasting effect on the observer, particularly for the wide range of different associations it allows for.
The selection of works is completed by art from, among others, Norbert Bisky, Jack Goldstein, Rodney Graham, Eberhard Havekost, Jonathan Meese, Bjarne Melgaard, Neo Rauch, Dirk Skreber, Gert and Uwe Tobias, Joana Vasconcelos, Matthias Weischer and Erwin Wurm.
Further impressive works in the jubilee auction in the section of Modern Classics and Post War Art come from, among others, Willi Baumeister, Alexander Calder, Marc Chagall, Salvador Dalí, Otto Dix, Lyonel Feininger, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Paul Klee, Imi Knoebel, Otto Mueller, Ernst Wilhelm Nay, Hermann Max Pechstein, Otto Piene, Serge Poliakoff, Günther Uecker and Kurt Schwitters.
