Munich, 14 September 2011, (kk) – Lucio Fontana, Günther Uecker and Andy Warhol, to name just a few of the big names that will be called up in the Auction of POST WAR/Contemporary Art at Ketterer on 29 October.

Works by renowned artists such as Alexander Calder, Matthew Barney, Sam Francis, Gerhard Richter, Damien Hirst, Friedensreich Hundertwasser, Jörg Immendorff, Horst Janssen, Paul Jenkins, Martin Kippenberger, Ernst Wilhelm Nay, George Rickey, Dieter Roth, Sigmar Polke and H.P. Zimmer can be obtained for prices starting at a couple of hundred euros. "This it is not only a good opportunity to add to a collection that is already in existence, but also one to lay the fundament for a first own collection", thus Robert Ketterer.

Besides Lucio Fontana's "Concetto Spaziale" from 1968 and Andy Warhol's "Jacqueline Kennedy I (Jackie I)", which has been estimated with € 8 000-10 000, it is particularly Günther Uecker's nail object, entering the race at € 12 000-15 000, that is going to enthuse the audience. The basic material for "Raum versunkener Bilder - Raum zerteilter Vorstellung" are four large-sized nail objects the artist showed in a solo show. Split into pieces of the same size by the hand of Günther Uecker, each one of the thus created unique pieces references the original work as a relict. This way the object is also a reflection of the original’s work fragmention by means of axe and hammer.
Warhol
Andy Warhol
Jacqueline Kennedy I (Jackie I). 1966
Silkscreen in colors. 52,6 x 43,5 cm (20.7 x 17.1 in)
Estimate: € 8 000-10 000
After the world record price that Fritz Koenig's bronze "Mona II" achieved in Ketterer Kunst's spring auction, one can now be curious about what will happen when yet another work by him will be called up. The documenta artist did not only participate in the Venice Biennale, he also received international recognition for a work commemorating the victims of the terror attack in the 1972 Olympics in Munich as well as for a sculpture that was placed in front of the New York World Trade Center. His broze is characterized by the interplay of supporting and burdening forms, a metaphor for basic sensations like baring and carrying. The massive plate of the work "Votiv 63 II" from 1963 seems to weigh heavy as a stone upon the figure in the center. The ray of light alone, which surrounds the figure through the opening, emanates an air of hope. The estimate is at € 20 000-25 000.

Emil Schumacher's "Bani", estimated at € 18 000-24 000, is a felicitous connection between burden and rest. The pastose structure of the material picture from 1978, with its dissolving appearance conveys an atmosphere of both motion and standstill.

The very opposite can be said about Donald Baechler's "Large Abstract Composition with Standing Woman #2", which entirely stands in the tradition of American Pop Art. The figure, clearly kept in a child-like manner in front of a colorful geometric-graphic background, obviously hints at Baechler’s very lively and process-oriented concept of art. The estimate is at € 15 000-20 000.

Next to Fritz Winter's 1966 oil painting "Rot vor Blau" (estimate: € 12 000-15 000), eight acrylic works with estimates starting at € 2 000 and two sculptures by Otmar Alt will captivate the audience’s attention. Three of these works from the 1980s by the artist who received the Federal Cross of Merit are unusually large and colorful, they each carry an estimate of € 10 000-12 000. Alt is often referred to as the storyteller among German artists. However, his pictures are not illustrations of famous fairy tales, but rather are fantastic image prose that asks the observer in an ironic manner to make his own discoveries.
