Munich, 10 October 2011, (kk) – The greatest treasures can often be found off the beaten paths. That also accounts for the special auction Sidelines of the German Avant-garde, which will be held in context of the auction of Modern Art on 28 October.
"The oeuvres of artists presented in this auction very often fell victim to World War II and later sank into oblivion. This makes it even more important to put these works, which don't need to hide their light behind renowned names such as Otto Dix, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner or August Macke, into the limelight to a greater extent", said Robert Ketterer.

The intention of the owner of Ketterer Kunst is to draw public attention to artists that have been wrongly forgotten and to thus give them the merits they deserve. With this unusual concept Ketterer Kunst offers artists of both Expressionism and New Objectivity, whose oeuvres were strongly depleted during the Third Reich, their own forum. On the other hand, the auction house wants to stipulate the rediscovery of forgotten talents. It is for these reasons that the auction aims at art lovers who have an eye for quality and not merely an ear for the sound of big names. The concept’s success has been proven by the great demand and the fact that this will be the eighth auction of its kind.
This year's offerings focuses on works made from around 1900 up into the late 1930s. It will be led by Max Schwimmer's oil painting "Der Einarmige" which expresses the feeling of being lost in such an existential manner that a vision is illustrated as a fact, its reality would make the execution of a painting impossible: The estimate is at € 14.00 to 18.000.
Another top lot is Hans Michaelson's oil painting "Blumenvase", which has been estimated at € 8.000-12.000. The artist, who is represented with three other works, captures the observer with his expressive "Männerporträt" (estimate: € 4.000-6.000), the "Stillleben mit Goldregen" (estimate: € 6.000-8.000) as well as with the work "Dorfplatz mit Fässern" (estimate: € 3.000-4.000).
Two other top lots are two charcoal drawings with watercolor by Hermann Scherer ("Badende am Bergbach I and III", estimate: € 4.000-5.000 each).
