Blau-Rot-Vertikal. 1967

Estimate: € 15 000-20 000
Munich, 5 April, 2011, (kk) - The stable and reliable market situation will attract customers just as much as the the range of top-class offerings that Robert Ketterer will come up with in his art auction of POST WAR/ Contemporary Art in Munich on 7 May:
George Rickey provides one of the top objects. With his kinetic sculpture "No title (Single line)", executed with a high degree of scientific accuracy in 1964, the artists plays both with the air conditions as well as the principles of gravity. The estimate is at € 10 000-15 000.

Two works by Fritz Winter will make for a special focus in this auction, as they both will be offered on the art market for the first time. Besides the oil painting "Roter Bogen" from 1970 (estimate: € 10 000-15 000), one of Fritz Winter’s so-called rectangular and serial images is definitely going to make for excitement in the auction room. On the contrary to the rather plain title "Blau - Rot - Vertikal", the intensive motif appears quite poetic and emotional. The estimate for the oil painting from 1967 is at € 15 000-20 000.
Albers
Josef Albers
SP (Hommage to the Square). 1967
Series of 12 silkscreens in colors
61,2 x 61,2 cm (24 x 24 in)
Estimate: € 18 000-24 000
Other highlights in the auction come from Karel Appel. Next to his oil painting "Walking Cat" (estimate: € 18 000-24 000), it is particularly the acrylic work "Portrait of a Farmer" from 1976 that impressively visualizes the colors’ expressive values. In an almost relief-like application the artist allows the colors to freely take hold of the painting. With unpretentiously strokes of the brush he expresses just the spontaneity he propagates. The estimate is at € 20 000-30 000.

While the timeless series of 12 silkscreens in colors "SP (Hommage to the Square)" by Josef Albers can perhaps be obtained for an estimated € 18 000-24 000, Fred Thieler’s work in oil "Monadisch spektral" from 1956 carries an estimate of € 14 000-18 000. Entirely uncoupled from any everyday figuration, it neither means nor shows anything but itself. It is solely tied in with the artist’s personality and his inner sensation. Thieler enters a dialog with the paint and controls it, he thus creates surprising results, unintentional things combine and the unconscious is brought out.

Besides two small India ink drawings by Lucio Fontana (Concetto spaziale, estimates: € 6 000-8 000 each) the auction’s offering will be completed with works by renowned artists such as Elvira Bach, Keith Haring, Bernhard Heisig, David Hockney, Sam Francis, Dieter Krieg, Adolf Luther, Sigmar Polke, Gerhard Richter, George Rickey, Emil Schumacher and H.P. Zimmer.
