Results of 2007 and 2010 topped
Best Annual Balance in 2011
Munich, 14 December, 2011, (kk) – Overall proceeds of more than € 29 million, that's the excellent result of the business year 2011 at Ketterer Kunst. "Accordingly, we performed better than ever before in our company’s history, we even outdid the best year so far by 11,5 percent", says Robert Ketterer.
Robert Ketterer continues:
"The excellent results and record prices that have been achieved clearly prove that German art sells best in Germany. With a result of € 3,5 million*, Pechstein's work with painting on both sides is not only the most expensive work in a German auction in 2011, it also set a new record price*** for a painting by the artist". With this record result, Ketterer Kunst is the only German auction house which accomplished the highest annual hammer price three times over the past five years.

Modern Art & Post War/Contemporary Art:
This section** alone, including the special auctions Sidelines of the German Avant-garde, from the Collection Schiefler and Garden Sculptures achieved proceeds of € 25 million*, roundabout € 5 million more than last year. Bidders from more than 40 countries contributed to this success, most of them from Europe and the USA, but also from Brazil, China, Singapore, Japan and Australia. It was not only the star of the year who experienced an excellent increase, other classics such as Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Karl Schmidt-Rotluff and Erich Heckel reached similar increases.
First and foremost, the list of sought-after artists is led by names of German artists: While it was artists such as Max Pechstein, Conrad Felixmüller, Gabriele Münter, Emil Nolde, Franz Radziwill, Otto Dix and Karl Hofer who caused furore in the section of Modern Art, it was people such as Gerhard Richter, Rupprecht Geiger, Fritz Koenig, Martin and Brigitte Matschinsky-Denninghoff, Eberhard Havekost and Horst Antes who dominated the section of Contemporary Art. Antes' "Figur Flora" even managed to beat the existing world record price***, which was also held by Ketterer Kunst, for a work by the artist.

Old Masters and Art of the 19th Century
With proceeds of € 1,1 million*, the result of this section is very stable. The fact that the appeal of art from the 15th to the 19th century is increasing is proven by the fact that some 34 percent new bidders participated in the autumn auction. This is a ten percent increase in comparison with the spring auction. More than just worthwhile mentioning are Willem I van de Velde's grissaille work "English Battleships" (starting price: € 60.000, result € 78.080) and Joost Cornelisz. Droochsloots "View of a Village in Winter..." (starting price: € 24.000, result € 51.240), as well as two record results: Both Otto Phillip Runge's four sheets "Die Zeiten" (starting price: € 35.000, result € 152.500) as well as Ludwig Ferdinand Schnorr von Carolsfeld's "Return of the Prodigal Son" (starting price: € 65.000, result € 78.080) generated great attention. While the series of four etchings achieved a world record price*** for Runge graphic, the color-intensive biblical scene set a new record price*** for a work by Schnorr von Carolsfeld worldwide.

Rare Books – Manuscripts - -Autographs – Decorative Prints
With and overall result of roundabout € 3,3 million* the department is more than content, particularly as last year's result could be topped by € 100.000. At the same time the best result in 20 years was realized. "I am especially happy to see that the evening auctions were met with great popularity. Quality and variety of the offering also attract new international customers who have previously had a focus on art. Focal points like the special auction Children's Books make for the rest, and the excellent sales quota of 112 percent (ratio between starting price and hammer price volumes) is the logical consequence", says Christoph Calaminus, auctioneer and head of the Rare Book department.
