2007 brings the best year ever to Ketterer Kunst
Munich, 19 December 2007 - (kk) - Around € 26* million overall proceeds: the outstanding achievement for the business year 2007 at Ketterer Kunst. Some 8000 lots were sold at auction, roughly the number sold last year but, in financial terms, this year’s results surpassed those of the previous year by more than 30 per cent.
"Even though more and more Russian oligarchs, affluent Asians and international investment bankers have discovered the art market and we are attracting numerous new clients worldwide with our increased activities online, I would not like to forget to thank all those clients who have been true to us for so many long years. After all, we owe this splendid success in large part to their high-quality consignments and their knowledge of art as buyers," thus Robert Ketterer, auctioneer and managing director of Ketterer Kunst.

The overall proceeds from the two Munich Modern Art & Post War
auctions, including the themed auctions Expressive Realism and The Professor
Robert Häusser Collection as well as Side lines of the German Avant-Garde,
amounted to some € 17.5 million. The highest sale price achieved and a media
star of international standing was uncontestedly Emil Nolde’s "Nadja".
With her incredible history and her seductive beauty, she enchanted a tobacconist
from Mönchengladbach, who found her well worth € 2.5 million, making her the most
expensive Nolde oil painting ever sold in Germany.**
With overall proceeds amounting to some € 4* million, the two Modern Art & Post War Hamburg auctions also exceeded last year’s results. Here the autumn auction was particularly successful, confirming that works by German artists are trend-setters. The roll was headed by such distinguished names as Feininger, Ohm and Pechstein in Modern Art and Penck, Hoehme and Hartung fetching top prices in Contemporary Art.
The results achieved in Old Masters & Art of the 19th Century, amounting to some € 1.5* million,
also represented a master stroke. Alongside Adriaen van Utrecht’s "Küchenstillleben mit erlegtem Wild und Gemüse"
["Kitchen Still Life with Game and Vegetables"], which more than doubled its estimate to fetch € 84 000,
a work from the circle of Carlo Saraceni also caused a sensation. A girl studying business had found the oil painting on slate in a sofa she had bought at a flea market for € 150. Carrying an estimate of € 6000, the painting fetched € 19 200 at auction.
With overall proceeds to the tune of some € 2.8* million and a rise of 12 per cent over 2006, the
Rare Books - Manuscripts - Autographs - Decorative prints is also rejoicing. "Gratifying that our still relatively young evening-auction concept with a separate, lavishly illustrated catalogue, has met with such approval, I am particularly pleased that many clients, who had previously been mainly interested in art, have now discovered how fascinating books can be," says Christoph Calaminus, auctioneer and head of the Rare Books division.
Along with the auctions, the year 2007 has brought numerous far-reaching changes: there are now representatives in Krefeld and Heidelberg and a move of the Munich headquarters to a new House of Art near the Neue Messe Munich is planned for the coming year (see the press release of 22 November 2007).
In keeping with the unceasing efforts to improve client service, Ketterer Kunst has also been represented in Heidelberg since 1 June 2007.
