Zwei Einzelbände des bedeutenden ornithologisch-zoologischen Werkes.
Band I der ersten französischen Ausgabe der Natural history of uncommon birds , und Band I der ersten Ausgabe der Gleanings, die mit ihrem englisch-französischen Paralleltext als Fortsetzung nicht nur der englischen, sondern auch der französischen Erstausgabe gelten. - Vorliegend Tafeln 1-52 und 211-229, 231-236 und 238-260. Mit schönen altkolorierten Kupfertafeln von Greifvögeln, Eulen, europäischen und exotischen Singvögeln, Papageien, Kolibris, ferner Elefant, Zebra, Affen, Stachelschwein u. a. Säugetieren.
EINBAND: Halblederbände der Zeit mit goldgeprägtem Rückentitel Edwards's birds I und V . 31,5 : 25,5 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit 2 gestochenen Titelvignetten (wdh.) und zusammen 100 altkolorierten Kupfertafeln (st. 102). - KOLLATION: 2 Bll., XIX S., 4 Bll., XXI S., zus. 52 num. Bll. mit englischem und französischem Text; 4 Bll., XXXV S., 108 S. - ZUSTAND: Fehlen das gest. Frontispiz der Histoire sowie das gest. Porträt von Edwards und 2 Tafeln in den Gleanings. Text gebräunt oder mit etwas Abklatsch der gegenüberliegenden Tafel, Tafeln nur in den Blatträndern leicht gebräunt und insgesamt sauber. Einbde. beschabt, Kanten bestoßen, Kapitale tlw. eingerissen oder mit Fehlstellen.

Vol. I of "Histoire" in first French edition, vol. I of the "Gleanings" in first edition (both with parallel text in English and French). With 2 engr. title vignettes (rep.) and 100 col. engr. ornithological and zoological plates (of 102). Contemp. half calf with gilt title on spine. - Lacking the engr. frontispiece of the "Histoire" as well as the engr. portrait of Edwards and 2 plates of the "Gleanings". Text partly tanned or with offset of the opposite plate, margins of plates only slightly tanned, plates overall clean and in beautiful contemporary coloring. Bindings rubbed, edges bumped, extremeties of spine partly with tears or loss of matter.
