The costume of Hindostan. London, E. Orme 1807.

Breitrandiges Kostümwerk mit Einwohnern Indiens, erstellt von dem belgischen Marinemaler und Reisenden Franšois Balthazar Solvyns (1760-1824), der längere Zeit in Kalkutta lebte. Erschien erstmals 1804.

EINBAND: Zeitgenössischer blind- und goldgeprägter Lederband mit Ganzgoldschnitt. 37,5 : 27 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit 59 (statt 60; ohne Tafel 39) kolorierten gestochenen Tafeln. Es fehlt, wie in vielen anderen Exemplaren auch, die Hermaphroditen-Tafel, die wohl aus sittlichen Erwägungen entfernt wurde. - KOLLATION: 65 (statt 66) nn. Bll. - ZUSTAND: Vord. Innengelenk etw. eingerissen, letzte 2 Bll. mit Quetschfalten. Einbd. berieben, Kanten etw. beschabt, unt. Gelenke mit ca. 3 cm Einriß, Rücken unten beschädigt. - PROVENIENZ: Aus der Sammlung Eckhard Günther, mit dessen Exlibris im vorderen Innendeckel.

Wide-margined costume work with residents of India. With 59 (of 60) hand-coulored stipple-engraved plates (watermarked "J. W. Hatmann Turkey Mill 1821") with accompanying explanatory text. Contemp. calf with rich gilt- and blindstamped decoration and gilt edges. - Front inner joint somewhat torn, last 2 ll. with publischer's queeze. Binding rubbed, edges slightly scraped, lower joints with 3 cm tear, tail of spine with defects. - Collection Eckhard Günther.
