"The book contains some of James Sowerby's first botanical illustrations. Other artists involved were Sydenham Edwards and W. Kilburn. The Flora Londinensis is much more comprehensive in scope than its title suggests for it embraces most of the English flora, as a result of which it should be properly regarded as the first color-plate national flora of England." First edition, second issue. 6 vols. Well-preserved and untrimmed copy with 432 beautiful engr. plates in contemp. hand-coloring. Uniform contemp. half calf with gilt spine and label on spine, 3 vols. of which skilfully renewed. - With ms. index of the complete work by old hand, bound in at end of the last volume. Bindings partly restored, flying endpapers of the renewed vols. browned, last vol. with rubbed edges. Fine and nearly stainless set with wide margins.
