Hockende. 1926.
Bronze with red brown patina.

PROVENANCE: Private collection Northern Germany.

Klimsch's "Hockende" (Squatting) gains its special tension through the beauty of the body’s self-contained silhouette, which forms a unity with her look. Embodying both contemplation and action, the "Hockende" counted among Klimsch‘s most popular works, even while the artist was still alive. It presumably was for this reason that the sculptor made a diminished version of this plastic for Rosenthal in 1936, thus making the plastic’s well-balanced beauty accessible for a larger audience.
